Election Address when Candidate for President in 1997
I graduated from Cambridge with a Physics Degree in 1958 and have been a protein crystallographer ever since having worked at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, the Chemistry Department at Harvard and the Biochemistry Department at Bristol (since 1969). I have always tried to attend crystallography meetings and have seen how techniques developed by small molecule crystallographers have been adapted for use in solving macromolecular structures.

Having become convinced of the importance of maintaining and strengthening the links between the different branches of crystallography I became a founder member of the BCA and am a past chairman of the Biological Structures Group. During my time as chairman we started the Summer Schools
