  • David Blow has written a new book,
    Outline of Crystallography for Biologists pub by OUP in April 2002, price �25 (paperback).
    The publisher says the main text is non-mathematical making it accessible to all biologists. The mathematics is contained in spearate boxes to offer deeper insight to those who want it. I would be grateful for any opinions from those who have read the book.

  2. Science Writing Prize 2001
     Science Writing Prize 2001 is the 3rd year of this prestigious THES/OUP (Times Higher Educatioal Supplement and the Oxford University Press) prize for previously unpublished work about popular science. THES/OUP are looking for well-written pieces aimed at a wide audience based on your particular area of science.
     • 1st prize: �2000 + the Oxford English Dictionary on CD-rom publication in the Times Higher Education Supplement
     • 2nd prize: The Oxford English Dictionary in 20 volumes
     • 3rd prize: �200 of OUP books in popular science
     The writing must be your original, unpublished work, in English, and not exceed 3000 words.
     Closing date: 31 January 2002
     Winners will be announced during Science Week 2002
